What if NYC was a Childhood City?

We’re narrowing the aperture of public space advocacy in New York City to focus on childhood, and the ways the built environment supports (or in most cases fails to support) childhood independence.

And we’re in very good company.

Advocates around the world are increasingly recognizing society has lost the plot when it comes to childhood well being. Whether it’s social-media-induced anxiety, over-protective parenting, a lack of unstructured play, or hostile urban public spaces, kids are being systematically let down.

We believe cities, especially New York City, can play a crucial role returning to today’s kids something that past generations were afforded as-of-right: freedom and independence.
